2011 Post-Event Roundup

Cruise for Haiti 2011, the 10th edition, was held on Saturday August 6th. Thanks to the many people who participated, to our generous sponsors, our loyal donors and supporters, and our dedicated volunteers we raised over $8,885! This is more than double the amount raised last year.

As you probably know, these funds were dedicated to the Grace Children’s Hospital reconstruction project. The new hospital will be bigger, better equipped and more able to provide paediatric services and outpatient prenatal and postnatal care; more able to enhance the general sanitary and psycho-social conditions of the people who access the hospital, more able to provide the care and community support to people living with HIV, with tuberculosis or those living with both conditions; and more able to provide the required follow-up services.

Construction of the medical laboratory, pharmacy and radiology department are currently under way and are expected to be finished real soon. To see and hear a brief video account of the reconstruction project, click on the following video link. Please visit the ICC website regularly for additional updates.

Judging from the level of participation and the overall feedback received, Cruise for Haiti 2011 was a great success!

Highlights of the event include:

  • The kindness and generosity of those who donated including the following sponsors: 365 Partners, Château Lafayette, Distribute It and Orleans Radiator Ltd.
  • Providing numerous door prizes and a wonderful basket of cheer for the raffle draw thanks to our supporters: The Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Carmen Levesque St-Jacques, Concept Home Theatre Networks, Créations Jean-Paul Levesque, Eddy Cavé, Embassy of Haiti, Faudry Pierre-Louis, Suzanne Potvin, Suzanne St-Jacques and Yanick Dutelly.
  • Entertainment provided by Guitarz, an excellent local Ottawa trio.
  • Delicious hors-d’oeuvres prepared and served by l’Entre-Nous Catering Company.
  • The Casino du Lac Leamy Sound of Light fireworks.

Thanks to everyone who played a role in making this event a true success. The funds collected will help provide men, women and children of Haiti with the health care and opportunities they deserve.
